Discover Primary Science and Maths Excellemce Award 2021-22
About Discover Primary Science and Maths
The Discover Primary Science and Maths Programme (DPSM) is part of Science Foundation Ireland’s Education and Public Engagement Programme, which aims to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students, teachers and members of the public.
The SFI Discover Science & Maths (DPSM) Awards give schools an opportunity to get much-deserved recognition for this work. As well as recognition, the Award brings a range of benefits; it provides a structure for STEM learning, raises the profile of science in the school and among parents and increases whole school collaboration.
In order to be awarded a Discover Primary Science and Maths Plaque , schools must fulfill 5 criteria:
STEP 1 - Science - Provide evidence of the learners engaging in science activities in the school, or online.
STEP 2 - Technology - Provide evidence for two or more examples of how the learners used technology as part of their school work. Technology inclides the use of Information Communications Technologies (ICT), coding or robotics.
STEP 3 - Engineering - Provide evidence for two or more examples of how the learners investigated engineering in class or in the local area. Video and photo evidence of at-home investigations are also accepted.
STEP 4 - Maths - Provide evidence for two or more examples of how the learners have applied their maths knowledge and skills in practical ways.
STEP 5-STEP 5 - STEM Show and Tell Provide evidence for one or more example of how the learners have presented and explained their STEM work to others (beyond their own class).
We are thrilled that the pupils of S.N. Réalt na Mara have been awarded a Discover Primary Science and Maths Plaque of STEM for the work they completed during the academic year 2021/22.
